The Highgate Vampire is Back!
Since it's never too early to kick off the Halloween season, here's some info about the so-called "Highgate Vampire." True or not, it's a tale sure to get you in the holiday spirit.
In the late 1960's, reports began to circulate that a tall, dark phantom was lurking among the tombstones in the Cemetery of St. James in London's Highgate section. There were also reports that the cemetery was being used for the ritual killing of animals whose carcasses were found drained of blood.
The Highgate Vampire came to the attention of occult researcher Sean Manchester. Manchester was investigating the case of a young girl who claimed she was being tormented by a nighttime visitor who left small puncture wounds on her neck. While following the girl during one of her late night sleepwalks, she led him to a burial vault in the cemetery where Manchester found three coffins. They were empty.
In another vault, Manchester found what he believed to be the "real" vampire and did the Van Helsing routine. Later, Manchester entered a haunted mansion near the cemetery and found a coffin in the basement. Upon opening it, he found the body of the same vampire he'd seen years earlier. He staked the body, and it disintegrated.
Manchester later identified a woman named Lusia as a vampire descendant of the original Highgate Vampire. One night in 1982, he encountered a large, spiderlike creature in the cemetery. He staked it, and come morning, the thing had metamorphosed into Lusia.
More information on the Highgate Vampire affair can be found here.
Apparently, the vampire is active again, as a tall, dark figure is haunting the cemetery once more . . .

Oh Lordie. Just what I wanted to read before bedtime. Argh!
I didn't complete my comment! Oh well...
Monkey's Human here, Truth be told, I love Vampire stories. And no, I don't read Anne Rice. But Bram Stoker's Dracula was the first book my father ever read to me.
Your father sounds like my kind of guy.
Dracula is one kick-ass book. I'm so excited that Halloween is coming.

One thing about which the original investigators are absolutely certain is that no authentic reports of supernatural vampire infestation or kindred disturbances have taken place at Highgate Cemetery for three and a half decades.
If you visit the Vampire Research Society online it is apparent that they still have members living in the vicinity of Highgate Cemetery and they know of no recent sighting from any credible witness.
The person making these wild and unsubstantiated allegations - and it is only one person - is a notorious local figure who was jailed in the 1970s for desecration and vandalism at Highgate Cemetery. He is also something of a publicity-seeker.
Now he is attempting to manufacture a new scare that the vampire is active again in the cemetery. Yet no scrap of evidence is provided. No witnesses have been identified. No testimony can be checked. Not one person has independently come forward to verify such a claim which remains the fodder of newspaper hacks who have been fed this latter-day attempt to jump on the bandwagon of the Highgate Vampire case by the same man who tried to exploit it for his own self-aggrandisement thirty-six years ago.

The person making these wild and unsubstantiated allegations is a well known local publicity-seeker and bandwagoneer.

We simply have to take his word - the word of someone with an infamous past with regard to Highgate Cemetery, someone who was jailed for five years in 1974 for tomb desecration and vandalism - and that is simply not good enough.
